Disclaimer: Game includes death, loss, bereavement, and grief.

Grief is a normal part of life and a process we all go through at one point or another. But it never gets easier to lose a loved one. Writing letters dedicated to our loved ones who have passed can be a healing activity. ‘A Letter Across the Veil’ is a solo letter writing game about loss, grief, and healing.

After losing loved ones and writing my own letters to them when I found too much in my heart that needed to be said, I wrote this in hopes that it will help someone else. I decided to write this game for two reasons. One reason was in case someone needed a way to get started with writing their own letters, and secondly, as a way to help normalize the process of grief and bereavement. We all grieve in our own way, but we don’t have to bottle it up nor do we have to process alone.

For the game you will need:

  • A way to record your letter (pen and paper, an electronic app, or a voice recorder if you’d prefer to do that)
  • A d4 and a d20 (or a dice roller app)

There are two copies. One is a colorized PDF, the other is a plain-text in case that is easier on the eyes and is printer friendly.

This game is dedicated to my ancestors and my elders who taught me about the importance of celebrating death as a part of life.
