El Chupacabras and El Noticiero

In this wacky GM-less game, one player takes the role of a chupacabras and another player takes the role of a news anchor and the townsfolk. Using a deck of tarot cards, together you create and tell the story of the chupacabras and the nearby town. The game is meant to be narrated in the telenovela and noticieros style. Make it as dramatic as you want!

Game play is around an hour depending on how detailed you are in your relating of the events.

There are alternate playing instructions if you are playing solo or with more friends or only have a deck of playing cards. There are also helpful links to help you get inspiration for the narration.

This game was created for the 2021 #BIPOCVampJam.

Although this game is described as wacky, please treat it with sensitivity and respect especially if you are not Latinx. 

This game is a love letter to my elders who kept me connected to my roots, to the many hours we spent watching las noticias, and to all of the cryptids of our people’s stories.

UPDATE: Now available is an extended PDF with updated rules to accommodate a larger party. Character cards are also included to help bring the characters to life. There is also a rules page if your party decides to play with a GM, known as the “Oracle.”

In the updated PDF, the first page of the rules, is the basic general rules, and the two-players version of the rules. The following pages are the rules and roles for the larger party.

Este es un juego de rol para dos jugadores sin un Director de Juego (DJ) que utiliza cartas de tarot y un estilo narrativo parecido a telenovelas y noticieros para contar una historia sobre un chupacabras y los habitantes de un pueblo. ¿En qué tipo de historias y eventos exagerados se involucrarán el chupacabras y los noticieros? ¡Juega para enterarte!

Toma una hora más o menos para jugar dependiendo de los detalles relatados durante el juego.

La versión en español contiene la versión original. La versión expandida será incluida en una fecha posterior.

Hay instrucciones si está jugando solo o con un grupo de amigos o con una baraja de 52 cartas regulares. Hay enlaces para ayudarle con inspiración para la narración.
